The Art of the Selfie (Hong Kong Style) is a study by Philippine photographer Jhoane Baterna-Pateña of a time when Hong Kong was still flooded with millions of Chinese visitors. For ten months, she observed tourists being bussed to one of the city’s must-see attractions, the Golden Bauhinia statue, to indulge in their favorite pastime: taking pictures of themselves. The result is a revealing, amusing, yet sympathetic document of the heyday of selfie tourism in Hong Kong.
